Abortion

If you are considering an abortion, you should be fully informed about all aspects of an abortion.

Your First Step Before You Decide:

  • Step 1: Confirming Your Pregnancy

Before you do anything, you need to ensure that you are actually pregnant. Even if you have taken a pregnancy test at home, it is a good idea to have a lab-quality pregnancy test administered by one of our trained personnel. 20% of miscarriages occur within the first trimester of pregnancy. Your pregnancy test can be positive at the time of your first pregnancy test and found to be negative within a few weeks due to pregnancy loss. Therefore, an abortion would not be a necessary procedure you need to go through.

  • Step 2: Pregnancy Ultrasound

An ultrasound helps to confirm gestational age more accurately than your last menstrual estimation. Gestational age will also influence eligibility of an abortion according to state law — affecting outcomes and possible side effects. We will date your pregnancy during your ultrasound exam, and factual health information to help you make a more informed choice.

  • Step 3: STI-Testing

It is important to ensure that you are free of any STI infections before deciding to have an abortion procedure. The presence of a Sexually Transmitted Infection, or STI, when you have an abortion can adversely affect your reproductive health. An untreated STI infection can increase the risk of developing Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), which can lead to infertility. We can provide free, confidential STI testing during your appointment.

When you are considering an abortion, it is important to have all the information before you make a final decision. Ultimately, it is your choice, but we are committed to helping you by providing the support and resources you need to make an informed choice.
